In the Spotlight | Josh Argall

In our mission to support Central Cass students in the arts, our “In the Spotlight” series aims to showcase alumni deserving recognition.

Josh Argall | Central Cass Class of 1993
Music Educator & Professional Musician

Josh Argall, 1993 Central Cass graduate, has been a music educator for 24 years and a professional musician for 30 years.

Argall has been performing professionally on saxophone in the region since 1994. Some of the groups he has felt privileged to perform with include The Myron Sommerfeld Orchestra (whom he played with on a cruise ship with for 63 days while sailing around South America), The Jazz Arts Big Band, and The Other Side Blues Band. He currently performs with The Side Street Monday Night Big Band, The North Dakota State American Legion Band,  the “We’re In The Christmas Mood” show (Nome Schoolhouse), Jazz Avalanche, (a 7-piece jazz messengers type group), and Post Traumatic Funk Syndrome (a 12-piece classic rock horn band). He also plays trumpet in the St. Andrew’s Brass Ensemble at First Presbyterian Church in Fargo,

While participating in high school band and choir, Josh enjoyed hanging out in the music wing with the many other musicians that lived there. He embraced learning as much as he could from his music instructor/mentor, Tom Wald, and recalls the many concerts, contests, variety shows and pep bands.

In the music world, you can continue to perform in many capacities your entire life regardless of your career path.

Josh encourages students to continue to find those avenues and share your talents with as many people as you can.

Argall attended Valley City State University for his undergraduate degree and NDSU for graduate coursework. He was the 5-12 grade Music teacher in Kindred, ND for 10 years, and has been the 9-12 band director in the Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton School District, in Glyndon, MN, since 2011.

In his ‘spare’ time, Josh enjoys playing in performances, attending his kids’ music concerts, football games, wrestling meets, track meets and dance recitals.

He also enjoys working on anything with an engine or tackling most any home improvement project. Josh lives in Glyndon, MN with his wife, Mindy, children— Jaden (15), Carter (13), Jonah (10), Cora (8), and their two sibling Golden Retrievers, Libi and Blu.
